This afternoon, I told Samantha and Jack that they could keep playing in the backyard while I got a few things ready for dinner, as long as they stayed were I could see them from the kitchen window. After a several minutes, Samantha began to stray from the deck and out of my view.
I went outside and told her "Samantha, I really need you to stay were I can see you, or you'll have to come inside."
She gave me that contemplative look that always makes me feel like she's 13, and said in her little 3 year old voice "Mom, you don't have to worry. I'm getting pretty big now. I'm already three. I'll be okay over here were you can't see me."
